Finding the right CNA Classes to start your study
CNA Classes are offered at a variety of locations, even online. Each state has its own regulations on approved Nursing Assistant Schools, however, so check with your state to determine if a certain type of training is acceptable over another.
CNA Classes in your State
Most states prefer that you enroll in schools approved by its State Board of Nursing. When you contact your state’s Board of Nursing, ask if they have a list or online link to approved Nursing Assistant Schools or CNA Classes. Training will be held in Nursing Assistant Schools located within vocational schools, community colleges, universities, and medical facilities.
Some state-approved CNA Classes may be held online; however, most states do have a practical and clinical requirement to fulfill in Nursing Assistant Schools so you must find a way to complete practical and clinical CNA Classes (which usually must be done in-person).
Applying for CNA Classes
When you apply for enrollment in Nursing Assistant Schools, ask if there are any prerequisites to taking their CNA Classes. Some schools may require you to take a basic math competency and literacy test prior to entering. You must also be physically fit, able to stand and sit for long periods of time, and be able to lift and bend before being accepted into Nursing Assistant Schools for CNA Classes
CNA Classes can range from four to twelve weeks, depending on the schools you attend. They can cost from $800 to $2000. Classes at Nursing Assistant Schools will cover basic textbook knowledge, practical, hands-on practice, and clinical experience in an actual medical facility. Most Nursing Assistant Schools work in conjunction with certain medical facilities in the area who provide opportunities for clinicals for the CNA training.
CNA Classes that you can expect to take in Nursing Assistant Schools include nutrition, human anatomy, physiology, infection control, communication skills, patient rights and personal care skills. Practical experience consists of practicing on a mannequin in the classroom. Finally, the clinical portion of your training, which takes place in a real-life medical facility, tests your knowledge of what you have learned in school put into practice on real patients.
Following completion of your CNA Classes, you must take a CNA Certification Exam. Usually there is a fee for this exam. This exam consists of a written portion and a practical portion, in which a state nurse examiner tests your knowledge from your classes of three to five basic techniques and skills.
When you pass your CNA Exam, you will be awarded your CNA Classes and Certification and eligible to obtain a position as a CNA. Your education does not stop there, however. To maintain CNA certification, you must take CNA Classes in continuing education at least every two years. Your state probably has licensing and certification fees and renewal fees as well.
