You are ready to take the CNA Exam
So, you’ve reached the completion of your CNA classes to become a Certified Nursing Assistant and you’re ready to take the CNA Exam. How do you begin to study for such an important test? There are many Nursing Assistant study guides published online, some free but most not, that can help you. Also, the school where you took Nursing Assistants classes might suggest study guides or materials that they can distribute to students. One of the best ways to prepare for any important CNA Exam such as the CNA Exam is to take a practice test.
The advantages of taking a practice CNA Exam
Nursing Assistant students increase their feelings of confidence about their knowledge after taking a practice CNA Exam, as they realize what they already know, what they need to brush up on before the CNA exam, and feel like they know what to expect from both the written and clinical portions of the exam.
Practice for your CNA Exam
Many states administer their Nursing Assistants CNA Exam through Pearson VUE testing centers. The Pearson VUE website, found at http://www.asisvcs.com/indhome_fs.asp?CPCat=0000NURSE, offers information on each state’s certification exam and what types of questions Nursing Assistant students can expect to see.
Candidate handbooks for many states are also offered, which prepare the student to take the CNA Exam specific to that state. Included in this Nursing Assistant handbook in addition to test question information is information about scheduling your exam and testing sites. This valuable information is usually offered free of charge.
Message boards for Nursing Assistants are another resource for information. One such board is located at http://www.network54.com/Forum/11252/. Students who are preparing to take the Nursing Assistants exam in their state, as well as those who have already gone through the exam process and are certified, post on this forum. It is a good place to have your questions about not only the CNA Exam but also the Nursing Assistant profession answered.
There is also a Nurse Aide Practice Exam Packet, offered by the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP). This CNA Exam packet only pertains to certain states, but allows the student to try a practice written exam and use the practice answer key to check his or her answers.
States that participate in this training program currently are: Alabama, Alaska, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Georgia, Guam, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Virgin Islands, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. More information is available at https://www.ncsbn.org/1721.htm.
Check with your state’s Board of Nursing as well, as some states have websites that will help you pass your CNA Exam. Many offer practice questions and/or tests to take and further study information or resources. Videos of some of the Nursing Assistant skills needed for the clinical portion of the exam are also often included on these websites.
Knowing what to expect on your CNA Exam is one way to feel confident, and confidence will help you pass both portions, written and clinical.. Practice tests can be an immeasurable help in this endeavor.
