According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is a future in Nursing Assistant Job

Nursing Assistant jobs are expected to grow by 19% between the years of 2008 and 2018, which represents a growth that is faster than the average growth of other professions.

Part of this expected nursing job growth might be because of the projected need for more health care workers in long term care facilities as the population of the United States ages. Patient numbers in long term care facilities will also increase as health insurance forces them out of hospitals earlier than usual.

Turnover is high, not only because of the lower starting salary but also because of the high physical and emotional demands of a nursing job. As the job does not allow much room for advancement, many Nursing Assistants go on to become Licensed Practical Nurses, leaving vacancies in their former jobs.

Others with a Nursing Assistant job might decide to go on for training in another health care field. All of this will enable those who want to get a nursing assistant  job to find entry-level openings fairly easily.

In 2008, there were an average of 1,469,800 Nursing Assistants (along with orderlies and attendants) employed in the United States. It is projected that, by the year 2018, there will be 1,745,800 nursing jobs in the United States.
